Thich Nhat Hanh’s calligraphy The theme: “Breathe, you are alive”. This retreat is for those who would like to explore the practice of mindfulness and learn ways to deal with everyday circumstances. In our busy lifestyle nowadays, it is rare for us to have the time to take a pause, to look deeply into our situations, and know what is really happening. We even do not learn how to take good care of ourselves and those we love. In fact, taking a pause and looking deeply is the very first step of showing love and care for oneself. This retreat can be a gift that we can offer to ourselves, giving ourselves some time to rest with more calm and clarity of mind. We can see that most problems we are facing now, come from our lack of mutual understanding and love, amongst family members, friends, and colleagues, etc….Whether we are married or single, it seems that we are facing the same problems.  Let’s explore together the practice of mindfulness and learn how to cope with problems with more peace and tranquility. In this retreat, we will have the chance to learn teachings and practices of mindfulness, to cultivate peace and happiness, inspiration and insight, which are already existing in us. We will practice mindfulness as a way of life, where everything we do like breathing, sitting, walking, eating, smiling …. is an act of mindfulness. We will also learn how to enjoy the beauty of life around us. We will listen to Dharma talks (lectures) and participate in group sharing sessions on how to live deeply in the present and deal with strong emotions. Together, we generate togetherness, making our presence a precious gift to each other, our partner, family members, and friends. We welcome individuals, adults with teens or children aged over 6 to join the retreat together. **1 We shall provide Children and Teens Programs separately. The […]

Theme of the Spring retreat is Awakening the Heart with True Love.   Wisdom and compassion are the core components of Buddhist teachings and practices. We have love for ourselves and well as for others, as stated in the Discourse on Love1, “Just as a mother loves and protects her only child at the risk of her own life, cultivate boundless love to offer to all living beings in the entire cosmos.” The Bible said, “God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”2 True Love, which consists of loving-kindness (metta), compassion (karuna), joy (mudita) and equanimity (upekkha), was called the Four Immeasurable Minds or the Four Devine Abodes (Brahmaviharas). Loving kindness is to bring happiness to others, compassion is to help make other suffer less, joy is to be happy with our own and others’ happiness, and equanimity is to love with no discrimination. In Manifestation-Only teachings, the Four Devine Abodes are four wholesome seeds in our store consciousness. They are already in us. We practice to awaken them and bring them into our daily activities In this retreat, we will have the chance to learn the teachings and practices of mindfulness to awaken True Love in us. Practicing True Love helps us to transform the unwholesome seeds like hatred, jealousy … thus enable to live peacefully and in harmony with ourselves and others. We will practice mindfulness as a way of life, where everything we do like breathing, walking, eating, smiling …. is an act of mindfulness. We will enjoy the beautiful sky, the trees, the walking path, the flowers around us. We will listen to Dharma talks and participate in group sharing on how to live fully in the present moments, to deal with negative emotions, and to cultivate togetherness, making our presence a precious gift to each other. The theme of this retreat is Peace in Oneself, Peace in the World. We look at the world with our own points of view. The world reflects our mental states. When a person is sad, the scene can never be happy.” By going back to our mindful breaths and mindful steps, we can be aware of our body, feelings, perceptions, mental formations and consciousness, getting in touch with them and not to be carried away by the negative emotions by recognizing them the way they are, then we can begin to transform pain and afflictions into peace and happiness. We can change the previous saying into “Every scene is joyful. When people are happy, the scene is never sad.” The wonders of life manifest in front of us, in the forms of gentle breezes, joyful smiles of friends, the autumn leaves, beautiful flowers, etc. … In this retreat, we will have the chance to learn teachings and practices of mindfulness to cultivate peace and happiness, inspiration and insight, which already existing in us.
